The Indiana State Library Professional Development Office conducts free classes that can be presented at any location and count towards library education units under certification standards.

 Advanced Inspire

With so many databases in Inspire, how do you know which one to use in specific situations?  This class gives an overview of each database, highlighting popular titles and uses for each one.  The optional second hour includes practice exercises for attendees.

This class will review common types of challenging patrons in a library setting, coping techniques for library staff, and strategies for successful resolutions. Have you ever wondered how you can organize all the Web sites in your Favorites folder? Would you like to be able to share great Web pages with your patrons.  This hands-on class will introduce you to del.icio.us, a Web-based, social networking site. Learn how to save, organize and share Web pages. This class does require the use of a computer lab. This 2 hour workshop is worth 2 LEUs for Indiana Librarian Certification.

This class is intended for libraries interested in learning more about Evergreen Indiana. Information covered includes the history of Evergreen Indiana, consortium policies, and a tour of the Evergreen Indiana catalog. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library

ECRR is an early literacy program that focuses on building literacy skills in children from birth to five.  This training will help prepare children’s services staff to offer programs in their community, as well as use the kit and materials provided to public libraries by the State Library.
