In June 2008 the State Library and IUPUI School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) announced receipt of a $1 million grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services for recruiting and educating 30 ethnically/racially diverse students for Indiana’s Librarians Leading In Diversity Project. The first cohort of 10 students began classes January 2009. The second cohort of ten students will begin August 2009.
I-LLID fellowships are opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds that will enable them to contribute to Indiana’s library profession. Successful applicants will be those who are underrepresented in the library profession and are willing to commit to work a minimum of two years in Indiana libraries upon completion of their MLS program.
Students who received less than a 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale for their undergraduate degree may be required by SLIS to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). It will be the candidate’s responsibility to test early and meet the school’s requirements. Applicants are encouraged to consider taking S401 before Spring 2010 or request a waiver to eliminate this required undergraduate course.
The third cohort of students will begin classes in the January 2010 Spring semester. Potential candidates must be accepted to the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science by October 30, 2009. The fellowship application process will be open from June 15 through August 28, 2009.
